David Lowell Lamberton, 70, of Honesdale, died Wednesday at home. His wife of 45 years is the former Judy A. Gumpper, R.N. The couple married on Oct. 5, 1968. Born on June 21, 1943, at the family homestead in South Canaan, son of the late Robert H. and Ruth Emery Lamberton, he was a graduate of Waymart High School, class of 1961. David was an Army veteran who served in Hawaii and Japan during peacetime. He worked for PPL for 35 years, and served as superintendent for the last 11 years. An active member of the community, he was a life member of Alert Hook and Ladder Fire Company 2, a member of Cherry Ridge Fishing Club, former president of Hawley-Lake Wallenpaupack Chamber of Commerce and a 10-year board member of Lacawac Sanctuary. He was first president of the Lake Wallenpaupack Recreation Council. Fishing was his favorite pastime, and he especially enjoyed trips to his fishing camp at Oneida Lake, N.Y. David loved to be boss, but was a gentle man. His family always joked of his perfectionism. His greatest love was his family and his special grandchildren. Also surviving are sons, Brian and wife, Melisa, Cape Coral, Fla.; and Eric and wife, Gail, South Canaan; brothers, Jack and wife, Paula, South Canaan; and Tom, the Hideout, Lake Ariel; a sister, Ellen Daly and husband, Frank, Media; grandchildren, Olivia, Eden, Alec and Julia Lamberton; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Bob Lamberton; and a sister-in-law, Janine Lamberton. As per his request, cremation services are being arranged by Hessling Funeral Home Inc., 428 Main St., Honesdale. A memorial service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at South Canaan Free Methodist Church, 19 St. Tikhon’s Road, South Canaan, by Pastor William Rushik. Private interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Honesdale, in the spring. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Alert Hook and Ladder Fire Company 2, 222 Willow Ave., Honesdale, PA 18431; or Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
