Clara Mahala Hector, 98 of Brooklyn, PA and a longtime resident of Beach Lake, died on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center where she was residing since July 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas J. Hector, Sr. on May 23, 2012. The couple married on November 28, 1946.

Born in Waymart on June 25, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Mahala Agatha (Eggleton) Hunter. She was a graduate of Honesdale High School, class of 1942. After graduating, she worked as a waitress, sales clerk and factory worker. Following her marriage and having her family, she worked at Valley View Farms, Katz Factory and the job that brought her most joy, a pre-school teacher.

Clara’s life revolved around her faith and her family. She was an active member of the Beach Lake United Methodist Church where she taught pre-school, Sunday School and Bible study. She also served as communion steward for many years. She hosted and was a member of several prayer groups. She enjoyed visiting, assisting and preparing meals for members of the church who were in need. She was also a member of the Good Neighbors United Methodist Women who made sleeping bags for the homeless.

Sundays were dedicated to her family when they would convene at her home for a delicious meal. She loved baking and the grandchildren looked forward to visiting with their grandmother knowing something sweet was awaiting their arrival. She loved being with her family. She was proud of all her grandchildren and recently enjoyed trips to Georgia to visit them.

Clara enjoyed traveling, visiting Niagra Falls, Monticello, VA and the nearby Civil War battlefields. At home she enjoyed her flower gardens.

Surviving are her sons William Hector and wife Brenda of Brooklyn, PA and Thomas Hector, Jr. and wife Missy of Beach Lake; her daughter Kathy Mohn of Beach Lake; daughters-in-law Sharon Hector of Equinunk and Diane Hiller of Dickson City; her grandchildren, Kim Stinnard, Jeff Hiller, Lisa Lopez, Roger Hector Jr., Desiree Mizwinski, Bill Hector and wife Jo Ann, Jaime Hector and husband Jamie Donovan, Erin Schimpf, Brandon Hector and wife Hannah, Ryan Miller and Nicole Hector; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Wayne Hiller and Roger Hector Sr. and her son-in-law Raymond Mohn.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 26th at the Beach Lake United Methodist Church at 11 am. Interment will follow in Indian Orchard Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Wednesday, 4 to 7 and at the church on Thursday, 10 until the time of service. All attending are asked to wear a mask.
