It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles R. Augello, who left us peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday April 26th, 2025, (82) at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA after a brief illness.
Born on October 22, 1942, to Joseph and Almeda Augello, Charles’ long work history began with his father working on the Augello Farm. This is where his love of animals and the outdoors began and became a huge part of his life. He also worked for John Bonham where he formed many lifelong friendships. He moved onto Penn Dot and became Equipment Manager before retiring after 30 years. Retirement was not meant for Charles, he went on to live his dream of working with both sons, Chaz and Mark at Augello Excavating for the next 20 years.
When Charles wasn’t working, he loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children on the Augello homestead and taking trips with Sylvia. Charlie was a family man and loved being surrounded by them for holidays and gatherings. He was an extremely kind, loyal and selfless man. He was also very strong-willed, tough as nails, and stubborn, but he had a heart of gold and would help anyone who needed it. He was big on showing respect, esp. to elders, and taught his children this valuable lesson, along with much more.
He was predeceased by his parents, brother William, and daughter-in-law Tina (Smith-Augello).
He is survived by his wife Sylvia (Fleece-Conklin); his children Chaz Augello (Marcy), Susan Zylstra (Bill), and Mark Augello (Karen); his stepson Tom Conklin (Alexanne); grandchildren Luke and Riley Zylstra, and Laura and Andrew Conklin; siblings Joe Augello (Portland, OR), Katie Bishop (Cheyenne, WY) and Lucille Justice (Honesdale, PA).
Charles was well known for making the rounds around Honesdale, visiting many places weekly to just “check in”. He leaves behind a history of kindness and generosity to those who knew and loved him. Charlie’s passing leaves a hole in our hearts, but the love for him will continue on. Until we meet again Poppy, find us a good spot to hunt.
Private services will be held by the family. With Charlie’s love of all animals and people, memorial contributions can be made to Dessin Animal Shelter or St. Jude’s.
