Obituaries » Charles Cowger Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Charles “Chuck” E. Cowger, 76, of Lake Ariel, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Margaret “Peg” M. Koberlein. The couple married on August 31, 1963. Born on April 13, 1938 in East Bethlehem, PA, he was the son and last surviving member of the late Charles N. Sr. and Eva Ware Cowger family. Before moving to Lake Ariel, he worked on a tugboat on the Monongahela River in Pittsburgh. He was a proud master mechanic and worked at PennDOT where he was a diesel mechanic for 35 years before retiring. He was a former member of the Alert Hook and Ladder Fire Co. in Honesdale. A “jack of all trades,” Chuck built his family home and enjoyed woodworking in his basement shop. He and his wife enjoyed flea markets and antiques. Chuck was well known to go out of his way to help others. Also surviving are his sons Charles A. Cowger of Honesdale, Ronald Cowger and wife Maureen of Beach Lake, and Mark Cowger and wife Christina of Lake Ariel; his daughters Lisa Cowger of Honesdale and Lori Cowger of Philadelphia; his grandchildren Ronald, Kristi, Tiffany, C.J., Billie, Haley, and Kendra; a great grandson Blake Cowger; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Ovie, Bob and Richard; his sisters Ina, Lucille, Freida, Josephine and Wanda. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Saturday, May 3rd from 10 to 12:30 when services will be held. As per his request, cremation will follow.
