She was born on March 19, 1922, the daughter of the late Herman and Theresa Schmitt Bassney.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale. She was also a life member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Martin #418. She enjoyed going to the senior center in Honesdale.
She worked on the farm and in Katz Factory.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews, the main caregivers being Gerald and Eileen Doherty, Anne Doherty, David Nonnenmacher and Raymond Billard Jr. and her special helper, Karen James.
She was preceded in death by sisters Ann (Ervan) Wells, Bertha (Horace) Marsden, Mary Bassney, Helen (Raymond) Billard, Mildred (Julius) Nonnenmacher, Esther (Robert) Young and infant siblings Augusta and Joseph.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 19th at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale at 10 am. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Wednesday, 4 to 6.
