On Thursday, October 6, 2022, Betty (Hathaway) Wood, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away at the age of 96, at Julia Ribaudo Nursing Home, Lake Ariel, Pa.

Betty was born on December 1, 1925, on Fork Mountain Road, Equinunk, Pennsylvania, to Emmett and Grace Hathaway.  She graduated from Hancock High School in 1943.  Betty was a very independent woman who loved her family and would do anything for any of them.  She really enjoyed cooking for all of them and there was always an extra piece of bread for anyone who stopped by.  She was “mom” to all.

Betty was a member of the Pine Mill United Methodist Church.  She worked at Bard Parker in Hancock, New York for 19 years.  One of Betty’s proudest accomplishments was becoming a deputy sheriff for Wayne County when she was in her early 60’s.  She served in this position for 16 years, retiring in1999.

Betty loved watching her favorite sports teams, the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Dodgers, as well as spending time with her dogs Pudgey and Pinky.  Anyone that knew Betty knew she loved to gamble, either at bingo, the casino or at home playing poker with her family.

Betty was preceded in death by her siblings, Amos, Marion, John and Junior, as well as her sons Richard, Steve and Ed.  She is survived by her children: Marcelle (Patricia) Wood Jr, William (Sue) Macey, Thomas (Kathy) Wood, Mary (Thomas) Courage, John (Lori) Wood, Joseph Wood and Jack (Michelle) Wood; daughter-in-law Chris Macey; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be on November 19, 2022, at Hessling Murray Funeral Home, Honesdale, 10:00 until noon, followed by the funeral at the Pine Mill Cemetery and a luncheon at the Pine Mill Community Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to Dessin Animal Shelter, Honesdale.
