Benton B. Hollister, 72 of Honesdale, died on Monday, March 31, 2014 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Tammy Ridd. The couple married on October 24, 1961. Born on October 4, 1941 in Montrose, PA, he was the son of the late Dr. Bryce and Marie Palmer Hollister. He graduated from Honesdale High School, class of 1959. He was a US Air Force veteran, stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas for 4 years. Ben retired from Moore Business Forms in Honesdale and later worked for Wayne Highlands School District where he was a part time custodian for 11 years. He was a member and trustee of the Central United Methodist Church and a member their XYZ Group. An avid golfer, Ben was member of the Honesdale Golf Club and a member of its hole in one club. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and was a former part time deputy fish warden for the fish commission. He was also a former member of the Lone Pines Hunting Club and also enjoyed bowling, woodworking and playing softball for Honesdale Beverage softball team. Ben’s greatest joy was his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son John and wife Amy of East Stroudsburg; his daughter Kathy Pahls and husband Dan of Honesdale; his brother Tom Hollister and wife Joy of Lake Ariel; his sisters Pat Stuart and husband Monty of Allentown and Phyllis Simmons and husband Bob of Largo, FL; grandchildren Alexandra Berttucci, Chadwick Jaggard, Blake Hollister, J.B. Pahls, and Rylee Pahls; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 4th at noon at the Central United Methodist Church. Friends may visit in the Wesley Room of CUMC from 10 to 11:45. Interment will be in East Dyberry Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale.
