Ann Marie (Hessling) Schroeder, RN, 80, of Honesdale, died on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles F. Schroeder on September 21, 2013. The couple married on May 12, 1962.

Born on May 21, 1937 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late Joseph W. and Bertha Weniger Hessling. She was a graduate of Honesdale Catholic High School, class of 1955. She later received her nursing degree from Mercy School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at Wayne Memorial Hospital until her retirement.

Ann served as treasurer of the former Private Duty Nurses Association. A woman of great faith, Ann was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale, attending Mass daily when she was able. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Martin and participated in the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel.

She and her husband were avid New York Mets fans since their inception in 1962. The couple enjoyed traveling to Florida to follow their team during spring training.

Surviving are her daughters Debra Schroeder and Susan Schroeder both of Honesdale; her sister Margaret Jean Gilhool of Honesdale; a sister-in-law Jean Quigley and husband James of Towanda; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Robert Hessling and wife Shirley and Joseph “Jo Jo” Hessling; her sister Elizabeth Vonson and husband Michael; brother-in-law Harold Gilhool and a niece Lisa Quigley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale at 10 am. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Friday, 3 to 6.
