Allan Gerard Schmidt, 64, of Honesdale and formerly of The Heights in Jersey City, NJ died on Monday, July 6, 2015 at Lehigh Valley Hospital at Cedar Crest. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Cooper.

Born on June 20, 1951 in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Gerard and Florence Schmidt. He was a US Navy veteran who served during peacetime. He was a boiler technician at AT&T for 25 years until his retirement. Allan was a member of the Boilermakers Union in New Jersey.

An great athlete, he began playing pee wee football and continued playing to the semi-pro level. Allan enjoyed electronics, music and collecting cars. He loved cheering for the New York Giants. He was proud to be an American and of the United States flag. Most of all, Allan loved his grandchildren.

Also surviving are his sons Marc Schmidt of West Milford, NJ and William Copper of Jersey City, NJ; daughters Melinda Schmidt of West Milford, NJ and Jamie Cooper of Jersey City, NJ; a sister Lonnie Waggle of Long Island, NY; 5 grandchildren Jenna, Brielle, Andrew, Lydia and Daniel.

He was preceded in death by a sister Cookie.

A Blessing Service will be held on Friday, July 10th at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale at 6:30. Friends may visit Friday, 4 to 7. As per his request, cremation will follow.
