Albert William Opinsky, 93, of Honesdale, died on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Isabelle Nonnemacher on November 1, 2013. Born on May 26, 1921 in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Albert and Mae Sumbrum Opinsky. He was a graduate of St. John’s High School in Scranton and later served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Albert was employed by the US Postal Service in Honesdale, where he served as Postmaster for a period of time. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale, attending St. Mary Magdalen Church. He was one of the original chairpersons for the former Parish Block Party. He was also a member of the Knight of Columbus, Council #363 in Honesdale and the Disabled American Veterans. Surviving is his son Michael Opinsky and wife Pam of Honesdale; his daughter Ann Matthews and husband Donald of Honesdale; several brothers and sisters including Celine Tiel and husband John of Honesdale; his brother-in-law Frank Nonnenmacher of Myrtle Beach, SC; many nieces and nephews. A Blessing Service will be held on Monday, Oct. 13th at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale at 11am. The family will receive friends 10 to service time. Interment with military honors will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Wayne County Public Library, 1406 Main St. Honesdale, PA 18431 or St. Joseph’s Center, 2010 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509.
