Albert Nonnenmacher, 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 4, 2014 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, the former Lydia Dexter on September 22, 2003. Born on October 14, 1917 in Jeannette, PA, Albert was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Miszler Nonnenmacher. In 1922 he moved with his parents to Honesdale, where he resided for the remainder of his life. Albert was a graduate of Honesdale Catholic High School and after graduation went into business with his father. He owned and operated Nonnenmacher’s Esso/Exxon Service Station from the age of 18 until he retired at 65. He was a life member of the Alert Hook and Ladder Fire Co. #2 and a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, attending St. Mary Magdalen Church. He also supported and consistently donated to the American Red Cross Blood Drives in his community. Surviving family members include his daughter Janice Helms and husband Pete; granddaughter Joy Sweller, twin great grandchildren Ellis and Ivah Sweller; granddaughter Dr. Rebecca Helms Brand and great granddaughter Mylah Brand. Albert’s family wish to thank Ellen Memorial Health Care Center for their diligent and compassionate care. A heartfelt thank you is extended to Hospice of the Sacred Heart. Their vigilance, kindness and consideration are so greatly appreciated by all who knew and loved Albert. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 9th at 10 am at St. Mary Magdalen Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
