Francis "Frank" David Williams, age 73, passed away on March 12, 2013 of complications from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) better known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
Born on October 4, 1939 in Honesdale, PA, he was the son of the late David T. Williams Sr., and Jean Spinner Williams of Cherry Ridge. He was a graduate of Honesdale Catholic High School and attended the University of Scranton before joining the National Guard. Frank managed the Lyric Theater in Honesdale and ran an antique shop in Hawley in his earlier years before joining his mother in a highly successful business, Jean C. Williams & Son Upholstery. Frank was the pianist at The Settler's Inn, Hawley for 35 years. He was an integral part of the dining experience, making guests feel entertained and at home. He performed in many local plays and musicals with The Ritz Theater in Hawley and Center Stage in Honesdale. Frank was the Assistant Director of Music for St. John the Evangelist Church and served as a Cantor. He was an original member of St. John the Evangelist Choir with whom he sang for the Pope twice.
Frank was known for his outstanding musical ability, his love of life, his love of travel, his sense of humor and his unique ability to bring people from all walks of life together. He lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his mother, Frank is survived by John Propeack of Cherry Ridge; his son Francis (Frank) Williams Jr., daughter-in-law Stacey Herzog Williams, grandchildren Riley and Quinn Williams; former wife and life-long friend Kay Ashworth Williams Stephenson, all of Lakeville; a sister Sandra French, brother David Williams Jr. and sister-in-law Melba Williams, all of Cherry Ridge, nieces and nephews, and a legion of friends and acquaintances who will keep his spirit alive.
He was pre-deceased by his father David Williams, Sr. and his nephew Jason French, both of Cherry Ridge.
Friends may call at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Friday, March 15th, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Terrace St., Honesdale. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
