Thomas H. Osmunson, 90, of Honesdale, died on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane E. Walsh Osmunson on November 15, 2015. The couple married on July 20, 1952.

Born on July 18, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Lorence R. and Edna Hall Osmunson. He was a proud US Navy veteran of World War II enlisting in March of 1944 and serving in the Pacific Theatre. Tom served on the USS Ranger CV-4 which was the first carrier to be built from the keel up. Tom was able to reconnect with his shipmates at one of their reunions and in 1993 became corresponding secretary for the group. He served that position until 2013.

Before moving his family to Honesdale in 1968, Tom was a “Jack of all trades.” He began working at Chroma Tube in White Mills until his retirement in June of 1991.

He was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale and was one of the first participants in its Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel.

He is survived by his seven children, Linda Shaak and husband Rick of Whitehall, PA, Lisa Tallman and husband David of Honesdale, PA, Thomas H. Osmunson II and wife Amelia of Virginia Beach, VA, Beth Osmunson and companion George Yurkanin of Jessup, PA, Diane Rickard and husband Bill of Cherry Ridge, PA, Mary Bower and husband Don of Linden, PA and Laura Rivezzi and companion Stephen Baxter of Lowell, MA; 15 grandchildren Kyle and Katie Shaak, Adam and Jonathan Tallman, Meaghan Tallman Simpson, Thomas H. Osmunson III, Amy Osmunson Goff, Brynn Estrada, Stephen, Andrew, Michael and Zachary Rickard, Jane Barr, Timothy Rivezzi and Wendy Rivezzi Soliz; 8 great grandchildren, Claragail Wheeler, Delia Goff, Shane Simpson, John William “J.W.”, Jacob and Henry Rickard, Allison Soliz and Ruby Estrada; a sister Maureen Lena; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Paul Gerard Osmunson, a brother Lorence R. Osmunson and a sister Patricia Maloney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 29th at St. John the Evangelist Church, Honesdale at 10am. All attending are asked to meet at the church. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Friday, 5 to 8.
