Stephen L. Monte, 75, of Honesdale, PA and formerly of Paramus, NJ, died peacefully on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born on September 18, 1941 in Teaneck, NJ, he was the son of the late Robert Edgar and Emma Lucille Way Monte. He was a US Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.

Stephen began his career as a self-employed plumber. He later retired from PSE&G and moved to Honesdale.

He was a former member of the American Legion in Maywood, NJ. Stephen enjoyed being outdoors working in his yard and gardening.

Surviving is his son Steve Monte and wife Barbara of Hillsborough, NJ; his daughter Michele Monte; his former wife and friend Marian Monte both formerly of NJ; grandchildren Tommy Olsomer, Zachary, Dana, Tyler and Cole Monte; his brother Neil Monte; his sister Joan Stellingwerf both of NJ.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert and David Monte and his sister Lucille Ira.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Monday, June 26th at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale, PA at 7 pm. His family will receive friends Monday, 4 until service time.

Memorial contributions can be made to Wayne Memorial Hospice, 601 Park St. Honesdale, PA 18431.
