Robert H. Hattler, 88, of Honesdale, died on Friday, September 15, 2017 at his home after a long illness surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Gloria Ginda. The couple married on September 3, 1954.

Born on May 4, 1929 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Howard and Virginia Marsh Hattler. He was a lifelong resident and a graduate of Honesdale High School, class of 1947. He worked for Doyle & Roth in Simpson, PA as an engineer until his retirement in 1994.

He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Honesdale, actively participating in the choir, church council and was a lector. He was a member of Protection Engine Co. #3 and acted as a foreman for several years.

He was a charter member of the Northeastern Barber Shoppers and was a member of two quartets, “Cho ordination” and Northeast Spirit” for many years.

Bob was a devoted, loving father, husband and grandfather. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, singing and woodworking. He was an avid reader and had a tender heart for all animals.

Also surviving are his daughters Karla Chubb of Honesdale and Kristen Shaffer and husband Phillip of Hamlin; his grandsons Matthew Shaffer and Kevin Shaffer; his great grandson Evan Shaffer; his sister Marsha Hattler Crump and many dear, close friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Gary, Louis and Paul Hattler.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 23rd at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Honesdale at 11 am. Interment will follow in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Honesdale. His family will receive friends on Saturday in church, 10 until the time of service. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund, 107 7th St. Honesdale, PA 18431 or to the Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Dr. Honesdale, PA 18431.
