Marilyn A. Hazen, 57, of Honesdale, died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. She is survived by her loving husband Lester T. Hazen. The couple would have celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary on September 2nd.

Born on April 10, 1960 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Raymond P. and Catherine Carey Miller. She was a graduate of Western Wayne High School.

For many years, Marilyn worked at the former Katz Underwear Factory in Honesdale. Recently, Marilyn was employed by the Wayne Highlands School District at the Stourbridge Primary School where she was a paraeducator. She loved working with the small children in her classroom. She said, “The children say what they like and mean every word they say.”

Marilyn enjoyed gardening and flowers. She especially liked decorating her yard with blow molds for the holidays so the kids could enjoy.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale attending St. Mary Magdalen Church.

Also surviving is her son Lester Steven Hazen of Bethany whom she loved dearly; her brothers Raymond Miller and wife Theresa of Lakewood and Jim Miller and wife Rosemary of Honesdale; sisters Maryann Miller, Carole Miller and Suzanne Rickard and husband Rob all of Waymart, Cathy Miller of Stroudsburg and Jackie Rickard and husband Tim of Honesdale; brothers-in-law Joe, Don and Gary Hazen; several nieces, nephews great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 31st at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale at 10 am. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Wednesday, 4 to 7.
