James Howard O’Shaughnessy, 79, of Honesdale, died on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at his home. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Mary Tierney. The couple married on September 24, 1965.

Born on March 11, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late William J. and Lillian Carroll O’Shaughnessy. Before retiring, Jim was a meat lugger in New York and New Jersey. Jim enjoyed fishing before becoming ill.

Also surviving are his sons James O’Shaughnessy and wife Donna, William O’Shaughnessy and wife Lena and James B. O’Shaughnessy; his daughter Patricia O’Shaughnessy; his brother Richard O’Shaughnessy; grandchildren Meagan Jocelyn and husband Chris, Ryan O’Shaughnessy and fiancée Devon, Joshua O’Shaughnessy, Zachary O’Shaughnessy, Tyeena and Tyra Thomas, Kareem Turner, Quannell Nixon, Christopher and Clarissa Petgrave, Antoinette and Anthony Chu and Shane Brian O’Shaughnessy; 4 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his step-mother Marie O’Shaughnessy; his brother William O’Shaughnessy, his sister Barbara Viola, his daughter Kathleen Chu and infant granddaughters Marie Ann O’Shaughnessy and Colleen Chu.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of his family. Interment will be in Glen Dyberry Cemetery, Honesdale. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale.
