Hilda Louise Weidhaas went home to the Lord on April 8, 2017, at the age of 102. Hilda passed away at Wayne Memorial Hospital with friends and family by her side. She was the wife of the late J. Karl Weidhaas. She was a resident of Wayne Woodlands Manor for 1.5 years where she was loved and admired. She was preceded in death by her sons Karl, Eugene, and grandson Michael, a sister Trudy Liebermann, and a brother Ernest Koether.

Born in Lehrte, Germany on July 24, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Wilhelm and Elsie Bergman Koether. At the age of nine her family emigrated to the United States and settled in Torrington, CT where she married the love of her life and where they started their family. She lived there until 1940 when the family moved to New Jersey. In 1973 Hilda moved Lakeville, PA.

Hilda will be remembered as an avid seamstress, quilter, and gained her greatest satisfaction from her knitting. She was the happiest when those knitting needles worked tirelessly to create little gifts to give to the many people in her life. Her cooking and baking will be remembered by all who knew her. She is best defined by her banana bread.

Her grandchildren Karl, Bob, Kristine, Rob, Kim and Gene have fond memories of summers up here at the lake. Her great grandchildren were also a huge part of her life. She is even a great great grandmom! She is missed by cat Chi Chi.

Hilda was a member of the Lakeville United Methodist Church where she took part in a knitting group. She and those other ladies made lap blankets that were sent to our soldiers overseas. She loved doing for others, whether family, friends, anyone who needed anything.

Hilda is survived by her son Robert G. Weidhaas Sr, daughter-in-law Rosemarie Weidhaas, grandchildren Karl Weidhaas, Bob and wife Lois Fazio Weidhaas, Kristine Milanese, and husband Ray Milanese, Robert G. Weidhaas Jr. and wife Allison Weidhaas, Kimberly Crawn, and Eugene Weidhaas. Also surviving is a sister Margaret Patterson of Florida, and a brother, Albert Koether, also of Florida.

Per her request, she was cremated. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 29th at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale at 11 am. The family will receive friends from 10am until service time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Lakeville United Methodist Church, 431 Purdytown Tpk. Lakeville, PA 18438.
