In his spare time, George continued to work, sharpening knives and saws, taught himself to be a locksmith, caning chairs, working on old engines and rebuilding old tractors. He especially enjoyed being out in the fields with his team of horses haying.

George was a member of the Pine Mill Methodist Church and attended the Free Methodist Church of South Canaan.

Surviving is his daughter Sharon Coar and husband Joseph of Honesdale; his sons Douglas White and wife Laurie Adams White of Lake Ariel and Verdon White and wife Pamela of Hawley; his brothers Charles White and wife Janet of Pine Mill and Robert White of Hamlin; his sisters Bessie Moore and Edna Zieler both of Lake Ariel; his grandchildren Joseph III, Matthew and Jeremy Coar, Brandie Weist, Zachary White, Ashley Wilson, Amanda and Brett Lockwood; 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Derwood White, daughter Heather White and grandson James Lockwood.
